CARE Project Lead

We are looking for a motivated, passionate individual who cares about making a difference in the community. You will be a person who actively fights food poverty through leading one of The Parish Trust’s main activities: The CARE Project. Each year, the CARE Project feeds between 7,000 and 9,000 people, with access to the service being available to approximately 54,000 people in Caerphilly Borough.

The CARE Project also reduces food waste, reusing food or saving food from large suppliers, and putting it into food parcels or using it as part of our Bag a Bargain scheme. You will help to lead our volunteers and coordinate the CARE Project, ensuring it continues to run smoothly and that our service users get the help they need.

The CARE Project Lead is a key member of The Parish Trust Team. This is a demanding and fast paced role that is pivotal to supporting the delivery of the CARE Project. It would suit a person who catches the vision and ethos we hold to, is structured and organised in their approach, and has a passion for community support and social justice. In addition, they will be willing to work flexibly as required to get the job done. They will be confident to work both collaboratively and independently, and adaptable to a changing environment. This role has the opportunity to connect with all areas of the community. It is a face-to-face role on a daily basis.

What you should know about the job

Contract: 37.5 hours per week, permanent.

Working pattern: 2:30pm-6:30pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with remaining hours to be worked flexibly as agreed by your line manager. This can be reviewed once the successful applicant has settled into their role.

Salary: £24,472 p/a (pro rata based on a 40 hour working week) Possibility of overtime as and when required. The Parish Trust operates a progression programme for professional development.

Location: The Parish Trust, Heol yr Ysgol, Trethomas, Caerphilly. CF83 8FL – subject to change.

Main Duties

Volunteer Organisation

  • Ensuring suitable volunteer numbers for the various streams of the project.
  • Training volunteers for their roles and ensuring due diligence is met.
  • Ensuring volunteers have access to various training resources and that their training is kept up to date.
  • Organising sessions for volunteer troubleshooting and advice.
  • Logging volunteer hours and being a first point of contact for volunteers when they are on shift, in collaboration with the wider staff team.
  • Using volunteer management and communications systems to accurately reflect data back to the organisation

“Food Hub”

  • Keeping appropriate records of the CARE Project activities, including cleaning, food logging, temperature logs etc.
  • Managing the “Food Hub” when it is open and ensuring all deliveries are met on time and to a good standard.
  • Packing food parcels, arranging, collecting and storing food items.
  • Managing the Food Collections from the various food outlets and distributors, ensuring that regular food supply is maintained to the CARE Project, and that volunteers are on hand to assist with this.
  • Ensuring support requests are handled and dealt with appropriately and efficiently.
  • Ensuring the charity van is looked after, prepped and inspected for deliveries, and logged & inspected at the end of shift, ensuring keys are away safely, and the vehicle logs filled in.

Building

  • Helping to ensure the building is thoroughly and regularly cleaned to the appropriate standard.
  • Helping to ensure the building is well-organised and suitable for its purpose.
  • Ensuring that the building is opened and shut following charity procedures.
  • General maintenance, tidying, and security of the grounds.
  • Ensuring the building is looked after and well maintained.

Collaboration with other Staff

  • Working with other staff, where appropriate, to report on any issues with food, stock levels etc.
  • Working with other staff on issues to do with volunteering, numbers, issues etc.
  • Line management of part time staff or willingness to line manage (funding depending)

Misc.

  • Keeping records of impact for grant funders
  • Being able to try new initiatives that enhance the service
  • Networking with other stakeholders to raise awareness of the organisation, its services etc.

You may be required to perform other duties from time to time to ensure the smooth operation of the CARE Project, including delivering food parcels in our van.
