FAQ

When are rehearsals?

Rehearsals are Monday evenings (term-time) from 7:00pm until 8:30pm.

A typical rehearsal has the following structure:

  • 7:00pm-7:15pm - Welcome and Settling in with vocal warmups
  • 7:15-7:45pm - Singing and practising songs
  • 7:45-8:00pm - Break
  • 8:00pm - 8:20pm - Singing and practising songs
  • 8:20-8:30pm - Finale piece, Notices, and Goodbye
What sort of music do you sing?

The choir will have a broad repertoire as it builds up its library of music. We're hoping to keep the music accessible and well known, from music of the theatre to pop/rock, and spiritual music too.

Do I need to audition to be part of the choir?

No! This is an un-auditioned choir, and we encourage people to join no matter their ability. There will be a mix of people with a range of musical ability but there's something about a large group coming together to sing which makes a beautiful sound. So please don't feel nervous!

Do I need to read music in order to be part of the choir?

No! We won't lie to you - being able to read music is definitely going to help you in a choir but it's not absolutely vital.

At The Parish Trust Community Choir, we issue all choir members with music scores of the music we're singing, along with the lyrics, and also part-specific backing tracks for those who cannot read music. This means that throughout the week when you're in the car or in the shower you can practice your part off by heart, ready for choir rehearsal!

For those who are interested, we plan to hold music reading sessions from time to time outside of a regular rehearsal as well as other skill building workshops to suit the need of the choir as we discover our strengths and weaknesses.

Can I try a session first before I commit?

Absolutely! And we encourage people to do this first. In order to sort out coming to a choir rehearsal for a taster session, please fill out our enquiry form.

Is there a cost?

Yes. This is not a profit making choir and there isn't a Musical Director to pay. However, we do need money to purchase music, print it, have it properly licensed and pay our bills.

To that end, there are two fees payable by choir members:

  1. The first fee is a one off £10 sign up fee when you decide you want to commit. This gets you set up on our systems, allows music to be printed off for you, and pays for your special choir folder so that you look the part!
  2. Thereafter, there's a regular choir member sub of £36 every three months (£12 a month, but paid in 3-monthly instalments)

These fees will ensure we keep learning new music and having a good time together and that new members feel immediately part of the choir family.

Billing anniversaries for choir subs are on the first day of each month. So if someone joins the choir part way through a month, you will be billed pro-rata for that month after which your 3-monthly subscription will begin.

Whilst we do have to charge a nominal sub for choir membership, we don't want money to get in the way of people joining the choir if they would struggle to pay it. Please contact us if you'd like to join the choir but would struggle to pay the fees.

Do you do concerts and events?

The choir is only just beginning at present, but our aim is to get out and about once we have enough songs we can sing well!

How do members get access to their music?

Choir members have access to an online account personalised to them with all the information that they need for the choir, as well as music and MP3s of the music that we're learning.
