Contract: Zero Hour Contract
Working Pattern: It is envisaged that the main working hours would be on Friday evenings between 6:30pm and 8:30pm, but some flexibility will be required.
Wage: £10.90 p/h
Reports to: Youth and Children’s Engagement Officer
Role Purpose:
This is a great opportunity for someone who’s passionate about investing in young people and providing them with a safe, welcoming space with role models to support them through vital times in their lives. You will create positive relationships with young people that attend Youth Club and assist in ensuring the space is safe, managed and engaging. You will help facilitate activities that empower young people to become active citizens and create positive change, whilst at the same time being part of a growing charity, and exposing young people to positive adult influences that they can feel safe with, whilst developing socially with other young people.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks
- Be a person that supports young people and fosters connections with them to establish a trustworthy, professional relationship
- Facilitate young people to build their skills and confidence so that young people’s participation and contribution are maximised and that they are able to express their views
- Become familiar with Youth Club’s code of conduct and practices
- Assisting with the signing-in process of Youth Club and managing behaviour of young people throughout the duration of Youth Club
- Assisting with tidying up of Youth Club and reporting on conversations and activities that have taken place each evening
- Take own initiative during Youth Club to manage and de-escalate young people’s behaviour proactively and try to engage young people that are not engaging
- Ensure that all activity and engagement with young people complies with safeguarding legislation, policies and procedures
Personal Specification
- Experience of working with children and young people
- Empathy for and understanding of the needs of young people
- Confident in managing and de-escalating situations as they arise in a positive manner
- An understanding of Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and practices in the workplace
- Discretion of judgement, and experience of dealing with sensitive information
- Previous experience of youth work desirable
