Role Purpose

To positively impact the lives of existing and potential Service Users of The Parish Trust and the community as a whole through running courses, clubs and events, early intervention schemes, pastoral engagement and practical support.

About the Role

The Community Worker is a key member of The Parish Trust Team. This is a critical role that will ensure that the charity meets its aims and objectives. It would suit a person who catches the vision and ethos we hold to, has a heart for social justice and pastoral care, and has a warm and caring approach. In addition, they will be willing to work flexibly as required to get the job done and are well organised and efficient. They will be confident to work independently and adaptable to a changing environment. It is a face-to-face role on a daily basis.

Contract and Pay

Full time, permanent contract at 40 hours per week.

£20,800 p/a – £26,000 dependent upon experience.

Location and Working Pattern

The Parish Trust HQ, St. Thomas’ Church, Heol yr Ysgol, Trethomas, CF83 8FL.

You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the organisation.

DBS – An DBS check will be required for this role.

Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) – The post-holder will be a representative of The Parish Trust. The role of Community Worker will include work that is spiritual in nature. As such there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the post holder is either a Christian, or sympathetic to the values and ethos of the Christian Faith and the vision of the Parish Trust.

Job Specification

Volunteer Engagement

  • Assisting in looking after the volunteer base and nurturing them through their time at the charity
  • Actively advertising to recruit more volunteers, setting them up and training them for the relevant roles
  • Scheduling volunteers
  • Dealing with any complaints or queries with the volunteers
  • Assisting with the practical day-to-day activities of volunteers and staff

Community Engagement

  • Providing a strategic input in the shaping of the services we offer
  • Identifying relevant Service Users and matching them with relevant in-house early intervention schemes
  • Setting up and carrying out community activities which will help tackle poverty and deprivation in all its forms within our service area
  • Setting up and carrying out a variety of community activities, groups, sessions and projects
  • Actively assisting in the reduction of food poverty in the charity’s service area

Office & Administration

  • To manage reporting and monitoring of charitable activities and assist with grant applications where required and relevant, to maintain transparency with the General Public and Grant Funders.
  • To manage your own workload and administrative tasks, liaising with administrative staff where appropriate.

Awareness

  • To actively advertise The Parish Trust and its projects both within the community and in a wider capacity
  • To foster relationships with other social, corporate, and public bodies where relevant to encourage a multi-agency approach to our work.
  • To help the Parish Trust fulfil its charitable aims and objectives
  • To promote the Christian ethos and vision of the Charity

Person Specification

EssentialDesirable
Sympathetic to the vision and ethos of The Parish TrustExperience of working in a paid or voluntary capacity in the charity sector and specifically a faith-based organisation
Ability to handle sensitive information in a discrete and confidential manner. 
Ability to provide a welcoming point of contact for service users and volunteers, and be able to signpost, where necessary, to appropriate people and services. 
Willingness to work independently and exercise judgement within agreed boundariesExperience of grant writing, reporting, and measuring impact/success of projects 
Ability to maintain focus and meet deadlines in a busy and challenging environment, while ensuring attention to detail 
Experience of working in a collaborative team context as well as being able to progress individual areas of work 
Willingness to be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications especially Word, Excel, Outlook and PublisherExperience of using database software and Microsoft O365
Proficient in the use of design software such as Canva
Willingness to be proficient in the use of the systems in place at the charity (Google GSuite, OSTicket, ChurchSuite, Microsoft Teams) 
A passion for social justice and gifted in pastoral careAny training or experience associated with pastoral care and community work
Ability to ‘triage’ incoming correspondence, discern level of need, and prioritise appropriately when required 
Competent to use of a variety of communication channels to disseminate information both internal and external 
Proactive in approach. Doesn’t wait to be given work but manages the administrative and communications functions of The Parish Trust.
Experience of pastoral/community work whether paid or voluntary 
Able to handle conflict and work under pressure 
Understanding of deprivation and how it impacts individuals, families, and communities, and a good grasp of how the charitable sector can help mitigate and alleviate deprivation. 
A full UK Driving License.
