Get in the Christmas mood with The Parish Trust!

Dear ,

We've had a busy October here at The Parish Trust, and November is a month of planning for the run up to Christmas. In our latest newsletter, we bring you our Christmas events calendar, a chance to help our NHS through sewing and knitting, as well as some exciting updates on what we've been doing and how we've been making a difference in the Caerphilly Basin...

Christmas is coming to The Parish Trust!

In the run up to Christmas, we are putting on lots of events for young and old alike, ranging from a Nativity Trail, to a Christmas Singalong Concert, to a Santa Visit at our Tommy's Tots!

We're also hosting a variety of Christmas themed community lunches, as well as a Christmas Day Lunch for those who would be on their own.

We have a dedicated page on our website where you can find out what's going on, as well as getting your children involved in some of our ongoing Christmas activities throughout December.

All of these events are either low cost (subsidised by grant funding we have received) or free.

Some events require people to sign up either online or over the telephone.

Supporting our NHS

Calling all those who can knit, sew, and quilt!

NHS KNIT
‌

The Parish Trust proudly supports the NHS by enlisting volunteers to knit and sew items to help nursing staff to care for their patients, both adults and children.

We call this group The Yarny Army who meet every Wednesday from 10am until 11:30am to knit and natter for the good of the NHS… and we think they have a great time together too!

We have started The Yarny Army because of our connection to The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board through our Community Shuttle Bus project which we ran through the first half of 2022, and because our Chair of Trustees, Rev. Dean Aaron Roberts, is a Chaplain in the Healthboard, with the chaplaincy co-ordinating the supply of knitwear for use in the hospitals.

On Saturday 19th November, we are hosting a “November NHS Knit and Sew“, as we’re looking to increase our supplies of:

  • Teddies for children and babies
  • Twiddle Muffs for dementia patients
  • Blankets (both for babies/children and adults), Hats, and Cardigans (babies)
  • Incubator Nest sets
  • Quilted Incubator Covers

We’re looking for as many people as possible to come down any time between 10am and 4pm to either drop off these items, or to stay for a knitting/sewing session with refreshments on tap!

For knitters, you need to bring your own needles and yarn (though limited supplies will be available at the event)

For sewers, you need to bring your own machine. The fabric and instructions will be provided to you for the Incubator Nest Sets (We’re simply hemming and nothing more than that)

If you can’t join us for the day, you may wish to donate knitting you have done at home. We take any of the items mentioned above, and also quilted incubator covers.

A full list of items (and patterns) that we need are available on our Yarny Army page. - CLICK HERE

VOLUNTEERING

Are you able to give some time each week to The Parish Trust?

Studies show that volunteering is good for you, and The Parish Trust is currently in need of volunteers to run our social justice projects such as our CARE Project. We're especially in need of people who are willing to deliver food parcels and can drive our delivery van.
