The Parish Trust is seeking two motivated and committed Youth & Children’s Workers to join our growing team. These roles are ideal for people who are passionate about young people, confident working independently, and excited by the opportunity to shape provision in response to real need in the community.

While we currently run a Friday evening youth club, these roles go beyond delivering a single weekly session. The successful candidates will be self-starters who can identify need, develop projects, and engage children and young people in ways that support their wellbeing, confidence, and sense of belonging.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality youth and children’s work, including our Friday evening youth provision
  Identify emerging needs among children and young people and help design projects and activities in response
• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, inclusive, and safe sessions and projects
• Build positive, trusting relationships with children, young people, families, and volunteers
• Work with, support, and help coordinate volunteers involved in youth and children’s activities
• Record attendance, engagement, and outcomes, and contribute to reporting on impact for grant funders and internal monitoring
• Carry out general administrative tasks linked to the role, including planning, record-keeping, and basic reporting
• Ensure spaces are left safe, clean, and tidy after activities, including setting up and clearing away equipment
• Work at all times in line with safeguarding policies, procedures, and best practice
• Represent the ethos and values of The Parish Trust positively within the community
  

Person specification

Essential criteria

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:

• A recognised youth work or children’s work qualification, or substantial and relevant experience in youth or children’s work
• Experience of working directly with children and/or young people in a structured setting
• The ability to work independently, use initiative, and develop activities or projects in response to identified need
• A sound understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries, with a clear commitment to safeguarding best practice
  Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships
• Reliability, good organisation, and the ability to follow through on commitments
  

Desirable criteria

It would be an advantage if applicants also have:

• Experience of working within a faith-based organisation or charity
• Experience of working with or managing volunteers
• An understanding of community-based youth work and early intervention approaches
• Experience of project planning, delivery, and evaluation
• Familiarity with wellbeing-focused or relational youth work approaches

The Parish Trust relies on volunteers to help us deliver our projects, including the collection and delivery of food as part of our CARE Project. On occasion, a lack of volunteers means that we have to look elsewhere to fill the driver role, and this is where you come in.

The Parish Trust are offering 3 zero hour contracts for individuals who are able to drive, collect, and deliver for The Parish Trust.

Essential Job Information

Contract: Zero hour contract, for 12 months (casual working)

Working pattern: Varied.

Salary: £10.00 p/h, rising to £10.90 p/h from January 2023.

Base Location: The Parish Trust, Heol yr Ysgol, Trethomas, Caerphilly. CF83 8FL

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Packing, loading and unloading delivery van
• Delivering parcels and goods to service users on designated routes
• Maintaining regular communication with HQ
• Collecting deliveries and loading them into the van, and bringing them back to HQ
• Cleaning and servicing van at beginning and end of shift

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Driving the Minibus as and when required for events/trips etc.
• Towing our “Caffi Caredig” – mobile coffee/snack bar to various locations

Person Specification

• Carry out work in a safe, efficient, and timely manner
• Provide excellent customer service, answering questions, and handling queries and complaints where necessary
• Adhere to assigned routes and following time schedules.
• Abide by all transportation laws and maintaining a safe driving record.
• Prepare reports and other documents relating to driving
• Operate equipment (Van, Minibus, Mobile Coffee/Snack Bar)
• Experience in a similar role is preferable
• Willingness to adhere to assigned routes, schedules, safety procedures, and transportation laws.
• Strong time management and customer service skills.
• Ability to walk, drive, and lift and carry heavy items for extended periods.
• Attention to detail.
• D1 + E Driving License or better is essential for this role.
• Clean driving record.
• Willing to undertake training in subjects related to the role.
